ESPN: Cowboys favorite player keep declining contract offers the team makes.

Historically, the Dallas Cowboys have been among the NFL’s most well-liked teams. But for the past 30 years, the team known as “America’s Team” has consistently failed to advance far in the NFL Playoffs. The Green Bay Packers completely destroyed the second-seeded Cowboys at home during the previous season.

Dallas’s repeated postseason collapses in the last few seasons have brought the team dangerously close to a major sea change. If 2024 is not successful, a number of important players might find themselves on different teams the following season.

Dak Prescott's Net Worth, Salary, and Career Earnings: How Much Money Has the Dallas Cowboys QB Made?

This indicates that both Lamb and Parsons demand $35 million a season or more. Obviously, this poses a difficult scenario for Dallas because they also need/want to extend Prescott.

Thus far this offseason, four NFL quarterbacks have inked significant extensions. The first was Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, a Pro Bowl player, who signed a $212 million four-year agreement. His $53 million yearly compensation was the second highest in the NFL at the time of his signing.

Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was then awarded a $275 million, five-year contract extension. His $55 million average yearly pay was the biggest in the league, shared by Joe Burrow.

Apart from the substantial sums of money, there is one thing that all parties involved in the contracts mentioned above should be aware of: they are all four- or five-year agreements. Stated differently, the players stand to benefit from a potential greater payout at a later time when they are still of legal age. They most definitely will because the NFL salary cap is set to increase annually.

Fans may recall that the Kansas City Chiefs signed Patrick Mahomes to a 10-year $450 million deal a few years ago. At the time, the contract made Mahomes the highest-paid player in the NFL. Now he is not even among the top 10 highest-paid players.

Dak Prescott seeking $60 million per year in new deal, per report

Not only does Prescott want a shorter contract for himself, but he also knows that, due to the precedent he will set, another quarterback will be able to earn more money than him in 2025, 2026, or 2027.

Of course, if he signs a shorter contract, he will have the opportunity to profit from a more lucrative deal. But it’s important to keep in mind that NFL players care about other players in the league in addition to their teammates.

Prescott will keep declining the Cowboys’ contract offers until he is assured that other quarterbacks in the NFL will be able to take advantage of it as well.
