Jets News: Chosen Anderson Signs Deal With Dolphins in Free Agency

A well-known figure to New York Jets supporters is ready for a payback match against his former team.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers signed wide receiver Chosen Anderson on Thursday, August 8.

“The 49ers add Anderson, who has 379 career catches and 30 touchdowns, with Brandon Aiyuk’s future still up in the air and injuries plaguing the position, including first-round pick Ricky Pearsall,” Pelissero said.

On September 9, the performer once known as Robby Anderson, Robbie Anderson, and Robbie Chosen will take the field against his former team during Monday Night Football’s first-week matchup.

Since 2022, the former Temple product has nearly had as many teams as name changes. The key word in that sentence is “almost.”

After signing with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2016, Anderson played with the team for the first four years of his career.

He caught 207 passes for 3,059 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns during that run.

The team did not know what his market value would be, though, so they allowed him to become a free agent in 2020. Ultimately, he agreed to a $20 million, two-year contract with the Carolina Panthers.

Joe Douglas, the general manager, has expressed publicly his sorrow for allowing Anderson to leave the facility.

Anderson achieved instant success in his first season with the Panthers, setting career highs in yards (1,096) and receptions (95). But he would never again achieve those statistical highs.

In 2021, Anderson made a tidy $29.5 million with a brand-new two-year contract. It was all downhill from there, though.

He was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals following an altercation with a coach of the Panthers. He was freed in March 2023 after spending six months there.

Ultimately, Anderson made his way to the Miami Dolphins, where he spent the whole 2023 season. Anderson has played on two previous teams, the Cardinals and Dolphins, however he has only been employed in 30% and 23% of the offensive snap counts, respectively.

Anderson May Be Able to Make a Sound
The 49ers are addressing both injury concerns and trade requests from the wide receiver position. Anderson was first signed as a result of that.

With the 2024 season starting in less than a month, Anderson has a chance to get some significant playing time in San Francisco.

Christian McCaffrey, a standout running back, will miss the entire preseason due to a “calf strain.” ESPN’s Nick Wagoner continued, saying he will also miss “a couple of weeks of practice.”

“NFL Network Insiders Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero reported Monday that contract talks are still stalled and that it appears more likely that Aiyuk will be traded than work out an extension with San Francisco,” according to the NFL Media Group.

It looks like the Jets will have a fantastic opportunity to play the 49ers early in the season. The NFC champion San Francisco was defeated in overtime in the Super Bowl.

Given all of these issues in the harbor, the Jets might make a lot of headlines in Week 1.
