Goodnews: It was David Pastrnak
The Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 and won their first-round series thanks to a goal from David Pastrnak two minutes into overtime.

Midway through the third period, William Nylander scored the opening goal of the game to put the Maple Leafs on the scoreboard. The Maple Leafs should have taken heart from this, as the team with the best record in all-time Game 7s—147-47 (.758), including a 4-0 record in 2023—is the one that scores first.
Less than two minutes later, Boston equalized the score thanks to a goal from Hampus Lindholm. At the conclusion of regulation, the score was still tied.
It was expected that the two clubs would square off in a seventh game. With at least four straight head-to-head playoff series requiring a Game 7, they are the first teams in NHL history to do so. Having previously participated in more Game 7s than any other franchise, they will be playing their 31st and 27th series overall this weekend.
The Maple Leafs and Bruins teamed to deliver the 11th scoreless Game 7 through two periods in Stanley Cup Playoffs history, having gone scoreless for the first two periods.
Matthews, Woll Out In
In Game 7, Auston Matthews was back in the Maple Leafs starting lineup. Keefe took him out of the game permanently early in the fourth game. Devoted supporters discussed this decision, and the head coach gave an update on the reasons for the decision to let go of the team’s possibly finest player. It’s all connected to the disease he’s been battling, he claimed. In the end, he has given us everything he has while being here. Finally, the physician removed him.
Nylander’s goal was assisted by Matthews. Goalie Joseph Woll, however, did not participate in Game 7 since it appears he was injured at the conclusion of Game 6.
Boston will play the Florida Panthers in the second round of the playoffs.
