Would you be shocked by this move? Is it required?

Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, two of the NFL’s most dangerous wide receivers, are already members of the Detroit Lions. But may they be planning something even more audacious?

The former Chargers and Bears Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen, who is shockingly still available, may be a dark horse for the Lions to sign as a free agent, according to a recent article from Pro Football Network.

This would be a startling move, let’s face it. The Lions don’t appear desperate at wideout on paper, not because Allen wouldn’t help. However, PFN presented a strong argument:

Keenan Allen Signs With The Denver Broncos: Prediction

“The idea is that if some is good, more is better (at the right price).” With Ben Johnson bringing his skills to Chicago, the Lions, who are in win-now mode, will be searching for some offensive steadiness.

That’s reasonable. As they prepare to move forward in 2025, Dan Campbell and the new offensive brain trust might want to arm Jared Goff with as many weapons as can now that Ben Johnson is gone.

There’s Still Something in the Tank
Allen demonstrated in 2024 that he is far from washed up, even though he turned 32. He nevertheless managed 744 yards and seven touchdowns in a difficult season with the Bears.

Keenan Allen hints at possible return to Chargers

Adding a dependable veteran like Allen on a short-term, team-friendly contract may be a wise move for a Lions team with a Super Bowl window open. He would provide superior route running, experienced knowledge, and a steady hand, all of which are particularly helpful during crucial postseason situations.

Are the Lions Making Sense?
Perhaps. But let’s face it: beyond St. Brown and Jamo, Detroit’s wide receiver depth isn’t what it appears. Even though they combined for more than 2,300 yards last season, their backup alternatives are less well-established.

The Lions might have one of the most dangerous and adaptable receiving corps in football if Allen’s price drops. He would also provide Goff with a safety net in case Williams had a rough season or injuries occur.
