Just three months ago, Reed Blankenship, a defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles, told the Philadelphia Inquirer, “I’m thinking about starting a little podcast.”
With the release of their new podcast, “Exciting Mics,” Blankenship and fellow defensive back Cooper DeJean are now showcasing their skills on the radio.
The pair launched a new page for the program and shared the news on their own Instagram sites.
Fans will get an intimate glimpse at the lives of young defensive backs, as well as maybe teammates and other NFL players, thanks to the “Exciting Mics” podcast. The podcast aims to combine comedy, astute observation, and a few extremely unusual viewpoints, with plans to sip white wine while discussing stories from the locker room.
After DeJean was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and signed with the Eagles, his friendship with Blankenship took off. Already a mainstay in the Eagles’ defense, Blankenship embraced the newbie and assisted him in adjusting to life in Philadelphia. Over lunches together, golf trips, and even a shopping trip to the King of Prussia Mall to buy DeJean a pair of cowboy boots, their relationship became closer.
Fans were immediately drawn to their friendship, particularly after they started planning their entrances to the Eagles’ stadium and wearing matching “Exciting Whites” T-shirts—a moniker derived from a wine aisle joke that jokingly emphasizes their uniqueness in the league as white defensive backs. When they were announced as the “Exciting Whites” during the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade, the fans erupted in boisterous excitement, further solidifying the nickname.
Regarding the nickname, Blankenship stated, “I wasn’t sure how to feel about it.” “You guys think this is cool?” I asked Slay, a few of my teammates, and my coaches. They all said, “Yeah, that’s awesome!” I thought, “All right.”
Both players have significantly improved the Eagles’ defense on the field. In particular, DeJean became the first Eagles player to record a pick-six in a Super Bowl, doing it on his 22nd birthday in Super Bowl 59. Blankenship, who is well-known for his perseverance and leadership, has been as adept at coaching younger players and serving as a backup anchor.
