ESPN: The New York Yankees acquire all-star starting pitcher through a trade idea.

Starting pitchers are needed by the New York Yankees. Marcus Stroman is on the 15-day injured list, Luis Gil is out until at least midseason, Gerrit Cole is done for the season, and Clarke Schmidt, who seems to be alright, was still scratched from his most recent start.

After Max Fried and, more recently, Carlos Rodón, manager Aaron Boone’s staff had a major decline, even with a healthy Schmidt.

The Yankees could turn to other sources for answers if they start to doubt the Will Warren effort. That is still a possibility for all of the Sandy Alcántara aspirants, but maybe Framber Valdez of the Houston Astros makes more sense.

Valdez was also identified as a potential high-profile trade deadline possibility in a recent survey of MLB officials. Mark Feinsand said the following:

Because teams are constantly looking for healthy, productive arms to take the ball every five days, starting pitchers will always be in high demand around the league.

Due to the limited supply of these weapons, the few starters that become available are frequently the focus of the yearly Trade Deadline rumors.

It was scarcely surprise that a starting pitcher earned more votes than any other executive when we asked them who they would want to see transferred before July 31. This is because even some of the strongest clubs in baseball would benefit from the addition of another starter.

Alcántara (12), Luis Robert Jr. (5), Nolan Arenado (1), and Valdez (1) cast the ballots.

A team-friendly deal that will increase Alcántara’s trade worth is the issue, not his poor start (8.42 ERA, 5.87 FIP after seven starts and 31 innings). Alcántara’s five-year, $56 million contract with the Miami Marlins is still in effect for three years.

As a future free agent, Valdez is a riskier choice, but he would also expect a much lower package. Although a Yankees-Astros trade would also mean ending their acrimonious rivalry, the following suggestion might be advantageous to both teams:

With his impressive Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre stats (.295 batting average,.941 OPS, 7 home runs through 78 at-bats) and well-regarded position as a prospect, Pereira would be hard to give up.

Beeter was impressive during his first season with the Yankees in 2024, making three appearances. He pitched three and two-thirds of an inning with a respectable 4.91 ERA and five strikeouts, but he also had an impressive 1.26 FIP. He still has the potential to become a good MLB arm, but a mixed minor league season can also make him more disposable.

Valdez would make a strong southpaw triumvirate with Fried and Rodón at the top of this rotation, but this is a lot to expect for a rental.

The Dominican Republic native has pitched for the Astros since 2020, recording a 3.17 ERA, a 3.38 FIP, two all-star selections, and four top-11 Cy Young finishes.

Houston is presently in third place in the American League West with a record of 18-18. In an effort to rebuild and let go of contracts that were about to expire, it also traded Kyle Tucker this summer for a youthful return.

New York supporters are worried that Valdez, who is 31 years old, will want a high salary this summer. The front office should, however, make every effort to take advantage of Aaron Judge’s unprecedented speed while he is still in his prime since he is not getting any younger.
