ESPN: Former Steelers safety, joins the Browns.
The Browns and the Steelers essentially traded safeties.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee is joining the Cleveland Browns. Earlier this summer, the Steelers signed former Browns safety Juan Thornhill, so the two teams essentially switched positions.
The Atlanta Falcons selected Kazee in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2018 he led the NFL in interceptions with seven, and he participated in all 16 games from 2017 to 2019. He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2021, playing a year with Dallas before joining the Steelers in 2022. After Ronnie Hickman and Grant Delpit, he will probably be the third safety in the rotation after recording five interceptions in three seasons with Pittsburgh.
The Browns have already added three former Steelers to their roster this summer. They traded for quarterback Kenny Pickett back in March and also added wide receiver Diontae Johnson as a possible impact player in their offense. When the NFL schedule is revealed in a few days, we’ll know when the Browns and their swarm of former Steelers will meet Pittsburgh.
