ESPN: Yankees supporters cry when they see former All-Star ruthlessly punishing the Red Sox.

The relationship between Gleyber Torres and the New York Yankees has long been a central thesis statement on this site. It simply didn’t work out, everyone was disappointed, and Torres left for the Detroit Tigers this summer, regardless of what happened.
Everyone has been better off since Torres and the Yankees traded what we hope was the final jab between the two sides. The Yankees are an absolute wagon, and Torres is flourishing in his new home.
Wouldn’t it be good to have this Torres in New York right now? Indeed. When his play started to deteriorate in 2020, it was what supporters were clamoring for. At the very least, though, the former All-Star is showing off his skills against the Red Sox, a team he has faced successfully in 102 of his career games.
Torres and the Tigers defeated Boston 14–2 on Monday night. In the first inning, the second baseman hit a huge two-run homer off Tanner Houck to start the scoring. He went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, and a walk at the end of the game, adding an RBI single later.
Torres might as well hurt the Red Sox if he’s going to play exceptionally well to get even with the Yankees.
Former Yankee Gleyber Torres absolutely shreds Red Sox in Monday night Tigers win
Despite receiving a lot of criticism during his time with the Yankees, Torres was quite effective against all of the team’s AL East opponents save the Rays. With Monday night’s figures in the books, Torres boosted his averages to .289/.355/.493 with 18 homers, 67 RBI and 10 stolen bases versus the Red Sox dating back to 2018.
There are two games left, Gleyber! Bury them! This is the perfect moment for Yankees fans to unite around the divisive subject of Gleyber Torres. With a 1.2 WAR on the season with the Tigers, Torres is hitting.304 with an OPS of.857 and 145 OPS+ over 29 games, has 12 walks to 11 strikeouts, and has only committed one error at second base in 213 innings.
Most Yankees supporters are undoubtedly happy that he’s getting healthier and taking it to a once-hated foe to help shift the AL East scales, but they will undoubtedly go crazy when he cashes in against the Bombers (he missed the first game since he was on the disabled list).
