ESPN: Yankees sign former 13-game winner with New Jersey ancestry on Tuesday.
The Yankees welcomed a seasoned pitcher to the team on Tuesday, but their attention has been focused on injured third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera.
According to Conor Foley of YES Network, the Yankees signed free agent right-hander Anthony DeSclafani to a minor-league contract on Tuesday. DeSclafani is a native of Freehold, New Jersey, and has nine seasons of big-league experience.
Since undergoing surgery on his forearm flexor tendon in March 2024 while playing with the Twins, DeSclafani, 35, has not been able to pitch at any level.
Over his career, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound pitcher has pitched 180 games, 169 starts, with the Marlins (2014), Reds (2015–16, 2018–20), and Giants (2023), with a 54–56 record and a 4.19 ERA. He pitched 13-7 with a 3.17 ERA and 167.2 innings in 31 starts for San Francisco in 2021, which was his greatest season.
The announcement was made soon after the Yankees activated infielder DJ LeMahieu, who returned from a calf ailment early in spring training, and placed Cabrera on the 10-day disabled list due to a fractured left ankle.
When Cabrera scored from third base on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge in the ninth inning of Monday night’s 11-5 Yankees victory in Seattle, he was hurt.
