ESPN: The Houston Texans formally sign a blockbuster deal to land the veteran sensational Jets’ star
During the previous season, the 30-year-old defensive lineman had 22 total tackles and one sack for Houston.
On Tuesday morning, the Houston Texans’ team X (formerly Twitter) account revealed that veteran defensive lineman Folorunso “Foley” Fatukasi had been re-signed.
Gregory Junior, a cornerback, was released by the organization to create place on the roster for Fatukasi. Junior signed a futures contract with the Texans in January after joining their practice squad the previous season.
After four seasons with the New York Jets, the team that selected him in the draft, and two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Fatukasi joined the Texans last season.
According to their depth chart, the Texans now have seven defensive tackles after adding Fatukasi. In March, the club added Sheldon Rankins to an established group that also comprised Mario Edwards Jr. and Tim Settle.
During his debut season in the Space City, Settle recorded a career-high season. Settle had a career-high 5.0 sacks, 31 total tackles, and 10 quarterback hits in 11 starts for Houston. In addition, Edwards finished the season with 31 total tackles and 3.0 sacks in 13 games for the Texans.
Houston has a wealth of experience at the position, and the Texans benefit from the Fatukasi’s outstanding run-blocking ability. He had the greatest run stuff rate on the club in 2024, at 4.8%, according to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats.
Due to a shoulder injury, Fatukasi missed some of the later half of the 2024 season, but he recovered in time for the Texans’ postseason run. Fatukasi recorded three tackles in the two games Houston played, including a tackle for loss during their victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild card round.
