For a Yankees club that is allowed the luxury to add either a second or third baseman since Jazz Chisholm Jr. has the ability to play either position, the Yankees can get inventive.
Although it might not be as simple as it seems, that should help them discover the person they desire.
Since there aren’t many outstanding hitting third or second basemen in the league, they probably won’t be available.
A Possible Substitute for an Infielder
Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pittsburgh Pirates is one guy the Yankees have been vaguely associated with in recent months.
Hayes is unquestionably one of the finest infielders in Major League Baseball, but he has never produced much offensively.
Drew VonScio of Newsweek suggested a deal that would bring him to New York despite the dubious offensive output, pointing out that the Yankees have a significant void at the hot corner, which is difficult to dispute at this time.
Due to Oswaldo Cabrera’s recent injury, the New York Yankees are starting over with their baseman. After suffering an ankle injury on Monday, Cabrera promptly had surgery to fix it. The Yankees, meanwhile, have a significant hole in the hot corner and few internal improvement possibilities.
He stated, “Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pittsburgh Pirates is one outside option to consider.”
Is Hayes the New York Yankees’ ideal choice? Most likely not. But unless the Yankees want someone who can come in and hit the bat and isn’t as good of a defense, they shouldn’t expect to find much better at this point.
Although it’s difficult to overlook the fact that Hayes, a Gold Glove Award winner, now has a 67 OPS+ and had a 60 OPS+ the previous season, there is value in acquiring defenders like him.
He’s only hitting.253 in 42 games this season, with three doubles, two triples, and one home run.
Michael Kay Supports the Agreement
Michael Kay, a New York Yankees commentator, connected the organization to Hayes over the summer. He went on to say that even if his batting isn’t up to par, the Yankees should still bring up this defensive wizard at third base.

However, it’s difficult to see a situation in which he develops into an above-average bat at the age of 28, having been taken in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft straight out of high school.
