ESPN: Amid rumors of his departure, Alex Highsmith of the Steelers makes a significant claim about TJ Watt.

It’s unclear if great outside linebacker TJ Watt will stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 2025 NFL season. Watt is about to reach the last season of his contract, and if an extension is not discussed, he may depart the organization through free agency or even a trade.

However, despite all of the speculation about Watt and his future with the Steelers, Pittsburgh linebacker Alex Highsmith thinks that the two parties will eventually agree and reach a new agreement.

According to NFL.com’s Nick Shook, Highsmith stated, “I’m sure he’s not going anywhere.”

In reference to a picture Watt had previously shared that had gone viral online, Highsmith continued, “I ain’t gonna lie, it was a cool picture at the game.”

But I’m confident that they’ll do all in their power to close a deal because I know he loves being here, that he loves Pittsburgh, and that the city loves him. Therefore, ideally as soon as possible. Because he is a generational player and skill, as everyone knows. He wants to be in this building, as we are all aware.

Watt is still waiting for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Myles Garrett’s recent contract with the Cleveland Browns may be a contributing factor in the Steelers’ failure to extend Watt’s contract. Garrett signed a $160 million, four-year agreement with Cleveland. Watt could want a deal that is more expensive than Garrett’s, or at least one that is comparable.

During the 2024 NFL season, Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, produced 11.5 sacks, 61 total tackles, and 27 quarterback hits in 17 games. In six of his first eight seasons in the NFL, he has recorded at least 11.5 sacks.
