As he continues to work out his contract status with the Dallas Cowboys, Micah Parsons missed this week’s OTAs.
As he approaches the last year of his rookie deal, Parsons is expected to sign a long-term agreement with the Cowboys, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Although discussions have occurred, no agreement has been reached.
Parsons is always being watched since his contract situation is still uncertain. Despite his ee, he went to offseason exercises in April. However, Brian Schottenheimer, the new head coach, isn’t too concerned about the great defense showing up for the optional training sessions.
Schottenheimer confirmed that Parsons was not present and stated, “He was going to do some traveling.” “So far this week, I haven’t seen him. My main point is that, regardless of whether the guys are present or not, you can still accomplish a lot of work and prepare yourself mentally. Whether you’re Micah, who isn’t here, or Dak (Prescott), it doesn’t really matter; just put in the effort and prepare. There are several approaches to preparation and readiness. The league has, in my opinion, made it very obvious that it is entirely optional.
The Cowboys want Micah Parsons to become a better leader. Since the Cowboys selected him 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, Parsons has quickly become one of the league’s most influential defenders. Parsons was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons and received several All-Pro accolades for his 63-game total of 52.5 sacks, 256 total stops, and nine forced fumbles. He tied for seventh place in the NFL with 12 sacks in 2024 despite missing four games because of an ankle ailment.
The leadership area is where Parsons has to improve, according to the Cowboys.
“Micah must be the player he want to be compensated as. Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, stated in April that he must be an excellent leader for the team. He has the ability and the mental capability, therefore he must actually set the example if we are to have any foundation for justifying the types of amounts we are discussing. Additionally, he is so substantial that it is obvious when he is not leading. Micah must thus take the lead, and I believe he is dedicated to doing so.
Cowboys and Dak Prescott are “tweaking”
Other important veterans, such as CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, have participated actively in OTAs despite Parsons’ absence. Prescott has appeared fit and smart in his early exercises since undergoing season-ending hamstring surgery.
In addition to having experience with Prescott, Schottenheimer, the former offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, provided a noteworthy evaluation on his quarterback’s present condition.
“Dak is at the developing stage, in my opinion. Schottenheimer stated, “There are things we’re tweaking with Dak, but that sounds crazy for a guy who’s played that much.”
Prescott still earns $60 million a year, making him one of the NFL’s top paid players. He too starts the season under tremendous expectation to perform well and help Dallas bounce back from a poor 7–10 finish, much like Parsons did.
