Breaking: Eagles sign in Commanders’ favorite tight end in a blockbuster deal.

3 free-agent tight ends the Commanders could sign after Armani Rogers blow

One day after being cut by the Commanders, tight end and college quarterback Armani Rogers was claimed by the Eagles on waivers on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Rogers has been in Washington for the past two years after signing as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2022 after attending Ohio University.

Similar to current Giants tight end Tyree Jackson, a former Eagle, Rogers played quarterback in college before switching to tight end after his eligibility expired.

With five career receptions for 64 yards in 11 games, all in 2022, he is 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. In his debut NFL game, Rogers caught a 23-yard pass from Carson Wentz as the Washington Wizards defeated Doug Pederson’s Jaguars in Landover on opening day in 2022.

In 2022, he participated in 217 special teams plays and 158 offensive repetitions.

Washington had anticipated a bigger role for Rogers in the previous season, but he missed the entire campaign after tearing his Achilles tendon during a non-contact practice in May at the Commanders’ facility in Ashburn, Virginia.

With the exception of Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra, the Eagles’ tight ends haven’t impressed me this summer. Along with C.J. Uzomah, Albert Okwuegbunam Jr., E.J. Jenkins, and Kevin Foelsch—who signed with the Eagles on Saturday—Rogers becomes a member of this group.

Rogers started his collegiate career at UNLV, where in 16 games he passed for 2,465 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. During his two years at Ohio University, he only completed 15 games with 58 throws, one touchdown, and one interception.

Between UNLV and O.U., he rushed for 2,217 yards and 27 touchdowns. His career college reception total was just two. After Randall Cunningham, he becomes the first former UNLV quarterback to play with the Eagles.

His 99-yard rushing score in a Buffalo, New York, game in 2021 stands as the longest in NCAA history.

In time to showcase his skills for the scouts at the 2022 East-West Shrine Game at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, he converted to tight end.

Rogers stated to the Washington Times, “I knew I wanted to get to the next level.” “I have never before run a route. But if I set my mind to it and give it everything I have, it’s working.

The Eagles cut wide receiver Shaq Davis, who inked a futures contract with the team on January 22, to create place for Rogers on the 90-man roster.

As a South Carolina State rookie who was not selected, Davis spent the previous season on the Saints practice squad.
