But the remarkable event didn’t finish after Hassanei got off the phone with the Lions — because he then proceeded to go down onto one knee and proposed to his fiancée.
Lions supporters are also likely to remember Hassanei’s draft-day call with Detroit coach Dan Campbell.
The former Boise State Broncos pass rusher made headlines for his fervent pledge to his new coach: “I’ll die for you coach,” Hassanei said. “I will die on that field for you. I promise I would.” The video of Hassanei’s call with Campbell has received over 350,000 views on X. Hassanei is now the first Egyptian to be selected in the NFL.
