Iga Swiatek may forgo the clay season, according to a story Brad Gilbert read, and Coco Gauff’s previous coach stated unequivocally that he doesn’t think it would be a wise decision.

According to a Polish source, the world No. 2 decided with her team to play the remainder of the clay season as planned after the five-time Grand Slam winner was destroyed 6-1 6-1 by Coco Gauff in the Madrid quarterfinal. However, the 23-year-old may take a hiatus from tennis and return around the US Open if Rome and the French Open don’t work out.

It wouldn’t be shocking if the Polish media’s allegation turned out to be accurate, given everything that has transpired with Swiatek in 2025, both on and off the court.

Gilbert responded, “Not a fan of skipping Wimbledon if healthy,” in response to the X report.

Gilbert responded to Gauff’s victory over Swiatek as well.
Gauff had little success on clay against Swiatek in the past. However, in Madrid, she defeated the Pole for the first time on clay in their sixth encounter.

After the match, Gilbert said on X, “Coco’s amazing performance completely destroys Iga Pop for her first clay victory and third consecutive victory overall.”

After leaving Madrid, Swiatek sounded dejected and made no secret of the fact that her game wasn’t up to par.

“I definitely feel like I haven’t been moving well, and for the majority of the tournament, the tennis was kind of on and off. I was therefore unsure of what I had in my toolbox. After the Gauff defeat, she remarked, “I definitely didn’t have a backup plan because nothing was working today.”
