Breaking news: Lions cut ties with linebacker after making veteran addition

After acquiring veteran defense Zach Cunningham, the Detroit Lions cut linebacker Abraham Beauplan.
The necessary comparable move is Beauplan’s departure, which was announced earlier in the day on Tuesday along with Cunningham’s signing.
Due to the insane number of injuries that occurred last season, Beauplan, 25, was one of numerous players who seized the chance to gain plays. He made three appearances, playing 46 special teams snaps and none on defense.
Cunningham gives the linebacker room another seasoned voice. Five years have passed since the 30-year-old led the NFL in tackles and single takedowns in 2020 while playing for the Houston Texans. Although he traveled around the NFL in recent years, he spent his first five seasons with the Houston Texans.
Cunningham spent two years with the Tennessee Titans, one with the Philadelphia Eagles and last season with the Denver Broncos.
Out of Marshall, Beauplan made his league debut as an undrafted rookie. After being waived due to an injury, he returned to the Minnesota Vikings on a reserve/futures contract after spending the offseason program and training camp there.
After spending some time in camp with the Lions in 2024, the linebacker was added to the practice squad and, in November, was promoted to the starting lineup.
Detroit’s linebacker room is headlined by Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes. Malcolm Rodriguez is working back from an ACL injury, and the Lions also have Grant Stuard, Anthony Pittman, Ezekiel Turner, Trevor Nowaske and DaRon Gilbert, all sporting experience on special teams.
