On May 17, the Indiana Fever defeated the Chicago Sky 93-58 to have a successful first game for the 2025 WNBA regular season. Although the egregious foul that Fever star Caitlin Clark committed against Chicago Sky Angel Reese in the third quarter has received a lot of attention, the game was an intense one despite the turmoil.

After the game, new head coach Tyler Marsh wanted to highlight that the Chicago Sky had some potential on the floor despite the lopsided defeat. However, Clark concluded the game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, making it tough for the opposition to control him. Turning the ball over, which they did 19 times, was another area where the Sky struggled. In an interview with the media following the defeat, Marsh acknowledged that his squad couldn’t stop Clark.

“I thought we did a decent job with her in transition,” he said. “I believe she somewhat injured us during pick-and-roll. It’s also one of those situations where she’s difficult to stop if she can get her scoring and facilitating going.” He went on. “A player like her never requires a one-person effort. It is a team effort, a collective endeavor. Furthermore, you don’t simply protect [Clark] from one individual. You keep watch over all five. In addition, Marsh gave Chicago Sky supporters a significant assurance: “This game won’t determine our season. “I can assure you of that,” he said.
