Breaking news: The New York Yankees make massive announcement about the Injured All-Star.
Jazz Chisholm Jr., an All-Star infielder, has officially started a rehab assignment, starting at Double-A Somerset, the New York Yankees said Thursday. Additional news: The All-Star infielder rejected the Yankees and Mets’ attempts to sign him for MLB’s worst team. After sustaining a right oblique strain during a game against the Baltimore Orioles in late April, Chisholm has not played since. The 27-year-old had a rough 2025 after being signed by the Yankees prior to the trade deadline last year.
Chisholm was only hitting.181 (19-for-105) in 30 games. Nevertheless, he finished with an OPS of.714 after hitting seven home runs, 17 RBIs, and six stolen bases. He produced 0.9 fWAR and had a wRC+ of 105.
After joining the Yankees last year, Chisholm primarily played at third base, but this season he has only played at second base. Prior to the transfer to New York, he was playing center field for the Marlins. Last season, Chisholm was a major contributor to New York’s march to the World Series. He hit.273 with 11 home runs in just 46 games with New York in the second half of the season, after hitting.249 with 13 home runs in 101 games with Miami in the first half. In the postseason, he hit two home runs.
The Yankees are seven games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in second place in the American League East going into Friday’s World Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers, demonstrating their ability to be dominant without Chisholm.
Chisholm may start at third base when he returns, but they have had trouble getting output from that position.
On Thursday, Chisholm will play third base for Double-A Somerset; upon his return to New York in the middle of the season, he may switch positions. Aaron Boone, manager of the Yankees, stated, “We’ll see,” on a possible move. “I want him to put in some effort throughout his games there this week. We will maintain our flexibility and come to a resolution any way.” When Will the Yankees Get Jazz Chisholm Back? According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Chisholm may be activated as early as the first week of June, which is next week.
The Yankees lineup, which now leads MLB in home runs (88), slugging percentage (.466), and OPS (.809), would greatly benefit from that.
