Mike McCarthy to return as Cowboys coach after stunning wildcard loss | Dallas Cowboys | The Guardian

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys 41-7 at Lincoln Financial Field, however Mike McCarthy’s squad contributed to their defeat. With two Cooper Rush interceptions (one for a pick-six) and two fumbles (one by Jake Ferguson and the other by Rico Dowdle in the red zone), the Cowboys offense committed four turnovers against the Eagles, giving the Eagles four extra possessions. Mike McCarthy was displeased because Philadelphia repeatedly gained value for its money, and a total of 24 points were scored off Dallas mistakes.

“The giveaways are disheartening, frankly,” McCarthy remarked after looking over the disturbing statistics. “They were reckless giveaways, and they were freebies. We had a game plan that called for running a football and maintaining a favorable down distance; third down was in a 43 percent area, so it really came down to taking care of the football. That’s the difficult thing for us offensively. I would have predicted that we would win the game if you had informed me that we could score more than thirty rushes. We clearly did not take advantage of the occasion.

Rush’s pick-six on the first drive of the game set the tone for the Cowboys, who knew they couldn’t turn the ball over going into the Eagles game. Despite a competitive quarter and a half, Dallas lost 24-7 at the half after three first-half errors that prevented them from giving themselves a chance to contend.

Four turnovers cannot occur again, even though we are unsure of who will and won’t play for the Cowboys in Week 18 against the Washington Commanders.
