ESPN: Aaron Judge of the Yankees achieve a new record breaking feat on saturday in Colorado.
Aaron Judge, the standout outfielder for the New York Yankees, placed himself ahead of the pack in the race for home runs on Saturday in Colorado.
The New York Yankees had two objectives going into their series against the Colorado Rockies. First and foremost, they aim to defeat one of the league’s poorest clubs in the series.
They did, however, also hope Aaron Judge would eventually hit a home run at Coors Field. Throughout his career, it was the only stadium where he had not yet gone deep. Even though the Yankees lost the game on Friday, Judge made up for it with a solo shot.
But Judge wasn’t finished yet. Judge launched a 405-foot home run off Kyle Freeland in the top of the first inning on Saturday. Judge’s season total reached 18 thanks to his deep shot, which put him back atop the home run race.
He has led MLB in home runs this season, along with Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber, and Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani. As he attempts to lead the NBA in the category for consecutive seasons, Judge’s long-range shooting placed him ahead.
Judge would be the first player to accomplish it since Joey Gallo in 2017 and 2018, if he were successful. Once again, the skipper of the Yankees has placed himself right in the center of the American League MVP debate. Along with Ohtani, he is attempting to win the league MVP award twice in a row.
Even though Judge’s home run off Freeland was spectacular, the series is not going well for New York. Only the third Yankees run of the series was scored by his solo drive. That is a really unusual statistic for a club that has one of the strongest attacks in the league.
Although they still have a ways to go, Aaron Boone’s squad has a chance to return to the World Series. The Yankees are more motivated than most teams to turn things around after struggling against Ohtani and the Dodgers.
The Yankees need their star to continue performing like an MVP if they hope to return to the grandest stage in the league. Judge has so far succeeded in establishing his own New York baseball era. Only time will tell what type of heights Judge can achieve as captain of Team USA when the 2026 World Baseball Classic approaches.
