ESPN: Caitlin Clark, a Fever rookie, responded immediately to the historic victory against Liberty
As the first rookie to score a triple-double in WNBA history, Caitlin Clark responded with humility.
Yesterday, the Indiana Fever played the New York Liberty. A number of players had outstanding games as Indiana defeated New York 83–78. Among them is Caitlin Clark, a rookie for the Fever who became the first player in WNBA history to record a triple-double. Despite the overwhelming triumph and record-breaking performance, Clark maintained his modesty.
After the game, Clark shared a photo reel on Instagram with the caption, “Fun was had with the girls.” Katie Lou Samuelson, a forward on her team, also left a comment on the post titled “Go [Aliyah’s] bestie.”
Clark maintained his modesty at the news conference held after the game.
Clark remarked, “To be honest, I’m just happy we won.” As I’ve already stated, I’m really proud of my ability to perform a wide range of tasks for this team. When I can get the ball off the glass and make a transition, I think we’re extremely good. 13 shots were made by my teammates using my passes. That’s for them, but—well—I’m not sure.
Then, Clark was interrupted by her teammate Aliyah Boston, who complimented her on her humility.
“Isn’t she so modest?” I asked. Boston addressed the assembled press. Let me tell you, though. Caitlin, that was pretty awesome. Fantastic work, sister!
Christie Sides, the head coach, was even enthusiastic about the historic triumph.
In the postgame press conference, Sides remarked, “Well, we gave them two days off in this last week, so they really think that’s what it was.” They are aware that they battled differently tonight. They were all taking credit as I walked in. They showered Caitlin, incredibly thrilled for Lexie [Hull] and really delighted for [Damiris] Dantas.
In front of home fans, this was Indiana’s first victory over any of the top four WNBA teams this season. Before, they were 0–9.
Newcomer Caitlin Clark of the Fever defeats the New York Liberty with a remarkable triple-double.
Caitlin Clark’s triple-double against the Liberty created WNBA history. She holds the record for the youngest triple-double in league history in addition to being the first rookie to ever record one. On Saturday, she beat her opponent Sabrina Ionescu’s record.
In addition, Clark’s triple-double was the first in the Indiana Fever’s 25-year existence. With almost seven minutes remaining and the Fever trailing by nine points, she locked up the triple-double.
When she pulled down her last rebound, the fans went wild and at the following dead ball, they gave her a standing ovation.
Clark, in her usual modest way, was concerned about keeping the throng quiet.
Afterward, Clark remarked, “Well, I was trying to get the crowd to be quiet.” “I was trying to get someone to be quiet, but I appreciate them making a free throw,” the person said. It’s obviously pretty awesome. My colleagues have been completing passes extremely quickly. My help figures are a result of them.
Clark made WNBA history with her 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds.
Several players made significant contributions to the Fever’s triumph. While reserve players like Lexie Hull and Damiris Dantas made several crucial contributions in relief of the starters, Clark’s teammate Aliyah Boston scored 18 points.
The Washington Mystics will be the guests of the Fever on Wednesday night. They will have three straight seasons with double-digit victories if they prevail.
