The moment has come for Philadelphia to compensate their head coach who won the Super Bowl.

One important one to go, one down.

This week, the Eagles signed tight end Dallas Goedert to a one-year contract. On the last year of a four-year contract that reportedly earned him $14 million a season, he was about to start a lame duck season. This past Wednesday, ESPN’s Field Yates reported that he will receive $10 million this season from his new contract, with the possibility of earning an additional $1 million if he fulfills incentives.

Given that Goedert had been the focus of trade speculations, it appeared to be the challenging aspect of the Eagles’ offseason.

Locking up Super Bowl-winning head coach Nick Sirianni, who will be in the last year of his contract in 2025, should be the simple part of the process.

It seemed inevitable that it will be completed.

However, when?

Why is there a delay?

The top ten NFL coaches with the highest salaries, per Front Office Sports, are:

1) Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid: $20 million

2) Denver Broncos’ Sean Payton: $18 million

T-3) Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin: $16 million

T-3) Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh: $16 million

5) Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay: $15 million

6) San Francisco 49ers’ Kyle Shanahan: $14 million

T-7) Chicago Bears’ Ben Johnson: $13 million

T-7) Minnesota Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell: $13 million

9) Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh: $12 million

10) Jacksonville Jaguars’ Liam Cohen: $12 million

The following six are:

Nick Sirianni clears COVID-19 protocols and will coach against Giants

T-11) Detroit Lions’ Dan Campbell: $11 million

T-11) Buffalo Bills’ Sean McDermott: $11 million

13) Seattle Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald: $9 million

14) Washington Commanders, Dan Quinn: $8.5 million

15) Houston Texans’ DeMeco Ryans: $8 million

16) Philadelphia Eagles’ Nick Sirianni: $7 million

Both Liam Cohen of Jacksonville and Ben Johnson of Chicago will earn almost twice as much as Sirianni, despite neither having yet to serve as an NFL head coach.

Sirianni’s “antics” and “arrogance” have offended many, according to a number of current and former NFL coaches. But he wins, and that’s what none of them have contested. Even while he doesn’t deserve Reid’s $20 million a season, he still deserves compensation in that range.

Yes, excellent work. At the Annual League Meeting in March, Eagles owner and CEO Jeffrey Lurie stated, “I mean, Nick’s going to be our coach and we don’t talk publicly [about contracts], never have.” Nick has done a fantastic job, and I’m sure you guys will soon learn that he will be our coach moving forward.

We went 16-1 after being 2-2, and the one time was when Jalen Hurts had a concussion when we were winning the game. Going 16-1 in the National Football League, four of which are against playoff teams—including the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl—is therefore no small feat. Well done.
