After Derek Carr announced his retirement on May 10, Bridgewater has been mentioned as a possible choice to join the New Orleans Saints. With a quarterback room that is primarily young and inexperienced, the Saints lack a clear successor for Carr, and according to one observer, Bridgewater would be an ideal match.

Bridgewater provided the Lions with a steady hand and aided in the development of 2023 draft selection Hendon Hooker. Bridgewater was called upon to step in until Goff recovered after he sustained an injury during last season’s divisional-round playoff game against the Washington Commanders.

Bridgewater is viewed as a contender to start for the Saints this season, despite having retired last offseason and coaching high school football until rejoining the Lions in December. Bridgewater was listed as one of the top three veteran alternatives for the Saints to replace Carr by Ian Van Roy of Pro Football & Sports Network.

Van Roy stated, “Teddy Bridgewater has had periods of strong play throughout his career, but he has been in and out of retirement.” He started for the Denver Broncos in 2021 and finished 7-7, which is similar to Carr’s performance from the previous campaign.

He knows about the Saints, too. As a starter in New Orleans in 2018 and 2019, Bridgewater has a 5-1 record. Although Sean Payton oversaw those victories, his.500 record in Denver prior to Payton demonstrates his ability to successfully manage games.

Additionally, Van Roy said that Bridgewater’s style would mesh well with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, “especially if he can recapture some of the poise he showed in 2018 when he threw nine touchdowns to just two picks.”

Aaron Rodgers, a free agent who hasn’t decided whether or not to join with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is another possibility the Saints might pursue. In addition to giving rookie Tyler Shough the reins after the team selected him with the 40th overall choice in the NFL draft, there could be other possibilities available on the trade market.

The Future of Teddy Bridgewater Is Uncertain
What Bridgewater intends to do next is unclear. After his contract with the Lions ended, he became a free agent, and Detroit is starting the upcoming season with just Goff and Hooker on the depth chart.

No task is too large for Bridgewater, according to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who previously coached Bridgewater during his time in New Orleans.
