ESPN: Lions general manager Brad Holmes declined a first-round trade offer from Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.
In order to stay put and choose Tyleik Williams, Lions general manager Brad Holmes declined a first-round trade offer from Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.
Brad Holmes, the general manager of the Detroit Lions, was contacted by the Philadelphia Eagles as they attempted to move up in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Eagles published a behind-the-scenes video in which their scheming general manager, Howie Roseman, was shown contacting clubs in an attempt to advance from the No. 31 choice.
Holmes was the recipient of one of those calls.
“Hey, would you like to move back?” Roseman questioned Holmes.
The video claims that Holmes rejected them.
That’s reasonable, and I like your candor. “I just spoke with Detroit, and they said no,” Roseman said to the Eagles’ war room.
Philadelphia chose to move up just one position by sending a fifth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs rather than negotiating with Detroit. The Eagles picked Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the 31st overall selection.
What We Can Learn From This
Even if Holmes didn’t publicly discuss the discussion, we may infer some details from it. Tyleik Williams was the Lions’ man, and they didn’t want to lose out on him.
Holmes remained true to his board and selected at No. 28, even though there was allegedly “some interest in trading down.”
The Bottom Line
The Detroit Lions’ operations under Holmes are exemplified by this brief moment that was caught on tape. Holmes had faith in his strategy while other teams were negotiating the craziness of Round 1, and it resulted in the pick of a defensive lineman who many feel can contribute right away in Detroit.
