ESPN: Lions sign Giants veteran CB on a three-year, $2.975 million contract deal.
In tandem with the acquisition of Divaad Wilson, a free agency cornerback who most recently signed with the New York Giants, the Detroit Lions cut rookie cornerback Gavin Holmes on Monday.
Holmes was the lone cornerback among the ten undrafted free agents the Lions signed prior to rookie minicamp.
Holmes allegedly signed a three-year, $2.975 million contract with the Lions despite not having his name called during the NFL Draft after spending three seasons at Wake Forest and two at Texas.
Wilson, 25, a former Georgia and UCF cornerback, was brought on by the Lions after he was waived before the last week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
In 2023, Wilson signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after going undrafted. Before the regular season began, he was let loose in August and signed with the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad.
Wilson made his NFL debut in Week 12 after Arizona promoted him to the active roster.
Wilson made two appearances and made one start in his first campaign. Before being signed by the Giants from Arizona’s practice squad in 2024, Wilson appeared in two games with the Cardinals. In 2024, he would make three appearances for New York.
Wilson has participated in seven games over his career, recording ten tackles and one pass defense. He will strive to establish himself as a member of Detroit’s potent defensive back group.
