Detroit Lions Insider: Frank Ragnow Unhappy With Contract

The Detroit Lions have had a challenging offseason following their 15-win season last year, as they have had to change both their offensive and defensive coordinators. A couple of the Lions’ players might be a pain, even if they still think they have a solid enough core to achieve their objectives of winning the first Super Bowl in the team’s history.

Alex Anzalone, the starting linebacker, may be attempting to negotiate a better contract, as we previously reported. Frank Ragnow, a four-time Pro Bowl center, now seems to be taking a stand on his contract as well by skipping the team’s optional OTAs.

“Ragnow also is unhappy with the extension he signed in 2021 that made him the highest-paid center in the NFL. He is scheduled to earn $9.15 million this autumn and has two years left on his contract.

Ragnow and Anzalone are the only two athletes that did not show up for this week’s exercises, even though the sessions are not required. Anzalone’s contract expires in 2025, but he also faces a $7.2 million cap charge in that year.

Ragnow, meanwhile, inked a deal that made him the highest-paid center in 2021; however, it expires following the 2026 campaign. Ragnow is the fourth-highest-paid center by yearly average value, with a cap hit of $14 million in 2025. Drew Dalman, Cam Jurgens, and Creed Humphrey ($18 million a season) are players who rank higher than him.

Following three straight trips to the Pro Bowl, Ragnow feels he has demonstrated enough to be compensated once again. It’s unclear if the Lions will concur.
