Former Houston Texans star J.J. Watt has sparked controversy in the football community by declaring that he is ready, willing, and able to play for his old team in the event that circumstances demand it.

Watt revealed that he had told the Texans’ head coach, DeMeco Ryans, about his goal at a recent charity softball game.

Watt supported his assertion by saying he would be happy to wear the Texans’ uniform if it meant that Coach Ryans’ side would have the upper hand.

Watt stated, “I’m really grateful to have left this league fit and playing well after 12 fantastic years. “Don’t call unless you absolutely need it, but if you ever do call, I’ll be there,” I told DeMeco last year. He is also aware that he shouldn’t call unless he really needs to. He knows that I’ll be there for him if he ever really needs it, but this is the final year I’ll tell him that since I’m not going to continue training the way I have been. I don’t think it will occur since they have a really strong group.

Watt played for the Texans from 2011 to 2020, showing remarkable bravery and tenacity over that time.

After that, in 2021 and 2022, he played second base for the Arizona Cardinals.

J.J. Watt Outlines Unlikely Circumstances That Could Bring Him Out of Retirement

Watt’s first year of retirement was in 2022. The 35-year-old did not hesitate, nevertheless, to express his willingness to consider a comeback.

Watt has always been a vital member of the Texans’ defensive lineup, so having him back may be a big help to the group.

Watt seems ready and willing to contribute, whether the team needs him to cover a spot on the roster or simply to reestablish his role as a seasoned leader.

Not only would Watt’s return strengthen the Texans’ defense, but it would also increase team spirit.

This might lead to a much-needed team renewal in time for the next campaign.

At his charity softball game on Saturday, Watt stated that he informed Ryans that if the Texans felt he could make a difference for them, he would play for them.

Watt stated, “I’m really grateful to have left this league fit and playing well after 12 fantastic years. “Don’t call unless you absolutely need it, but if you ever do call, I’ll be there,” I told DeMeco last year. After playing for the Texans from 2011 to 2020, 35-year-old Watt spent 2021 and 2022 with the Cardinals. He announced that he was open to returning from retirement during the previous season, which was his first year in retirement.

Watt made his remarks shortly after Pat McAfee questioned Texans General Manager Nick Caserio over Watt’s possible return. Caserio did not rule anything out.

Watt has now dispelled any doubt that, should the Texans desire it, he would be willing to return, regardless of Ryans’ “absolutely needs” for him to do so.
