ESPN: The Dodgers have released official announcement, after obtaining New York Yankees’ star off waivers.
That was fast, huh? The Los Angeles Dodgers have already designated right-hander Yoendrys Gómez for assignment, less than two weeks after obtaining him off the New York Yankees’ waivers. The Dodgers summoned Triple-A Oklahoma City’s J. P. Feyereisen as a “fresh bullpen arm” in turn, according to a report by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic on Tuesday morning.
After playing for the Dodgers during the 2024 season, Feyereisen is back with the team. The Arizona Diamondbacks designated him for assignment late last month after he gave up two runs in two innings thrown in two games. He signed a minor-league contract with the team after becoming a free agency over the summer.
Feyereisen pitched 10 games across several big league stints last season with the Dodgers, going 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA. He pitched in 33 games (six starts) in Oklahoma City, going 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA. When Los Angeles plays another bullpen game on Wednesday, Feyereisen will probably be optioned back to Triple-A, even if he provides the Dodgers with an additional arm for the time being.
In a bullpen roster swap, the Dodgers recall J.P. Feyereisen and DFA former Yankees top prospect Yoendrys Gómez.
It’s easy to understand why Gómez’s time in Los Angeles was so brief. He threw to an ERA of 14.54 in 4 1/3 innings across three games, allowing a team-high seven runs in that time. His most recent outing came on Monday against the Miami Marlins when he entered a 7-1 game in the eighth and left after giving up a three-run homer while only recording one out.
Gómez turned a big lead into a close game for the Dodgers for the second time in his four outings. In a Dodgers victory of 12–7 on April 30, he also gave up four runs in a single inning against the Marlins.
Gómez is no longer on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, and they have seven days to trade for him or cut him. The Dodgers can assign him to the minor levels, which appears to be the most likely scenario, if he clears outright waivers.
