ESPN: The Jets’ “Coveted” team captain is acquired in a trade with the Eagles.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, the New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles made a deal.
In return for the No. 130 overall selection in the fourth round, Gang Green forfeited the No. 145 overall pick in the fifth round and the No. 207 overall pick in the sixth.

The Jets selected Malachi Moore, a former defensive back for Alabama, with that choice.
General manager Darren Mougey acknowledged how much they “coveted” Moore as a potential after the selection.
One of the people we targeted was Malachi Moore. He was a team captain and is undoubtedly a very natural tough player. He is composed of the proper materials at safety. We really wanted him and went after him early in the day. Mougey stated, “I’m glad we added him.”
The Jets Get Great Appreciation for Investing in Pro Football Focus Moore has the potential to be “one of the steals of the draft,” according to Max Chadwick.

Officially, the Jets’ move up for Moore marked the start of the Mougey era. The Jets were praised for their belief in trading up for a guy they wanted on the Bleacher Report draft desk.
“I will choose an A [grade].” Michael Felder, an analyst, stated, “I love the way he plays.”

Moore Has the Chance to Take Advantage of the Situation
Moore was selected on the third day. Despite those modest beginnings, Moore has the potential to be a starting safety opposite Andre Cisco in 2025, according to NBC draft expert Connor Rogers.
Moore was one of the top five “late round picks who can make an IMMEDIATE impact this season,” according to Chadwick.

Moore, 23, played for the Crimson Tide for five years, making 64 appearances. He recorded over 214 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, and 25 pass deflections.
His size is what caused him to drop on draft day. Moore weighed 197 pounds and was 5 feet 11 inches tall.
Ordinary speed and burst are displayed in man coverage; this is not a high-end athlete. lacks outstanding height, weight, and length and has an average size profile. Dane Brugler clarified in “The Beast” that it lacks “the suddenness to easily recover, especially vertically.”
The assessment of secondary players is perhaps the one area in which head coach Aaron Glenn should be trusted. Glenn was one of the best corners in Jets team history during his 15 years in the NFL.
