Abraham Beauplan

In preparation for their first team meeting after the dismal conclusion of their 2024 season, the Detroit Lions begin their organized team activities (OTAs) on Wednesday. To formally begin the 2025 season and the pursuit of the Super Bowl, all of the coaching staff, including rookies and newbies, will be present in the building.

The Lions made the announcement of a signing just prior to the offseason program. Zach Cunningham, a veteran linebacker, was rumored to be joining Detroit on Tuesday. After playing with the Broncos the previous season, the former NFL single-season tackles leader joined the Lions. Detroit has to make a matching move to make place for the 30-year-old defense. Later in the day, they waved Abraham Beauplan, a fellow linebacker, to declare that.

Abraham Beauplan, LB, is being waived by the Lions to make room for Zach Cunningham.

Beauplan joined the Lions in the 2024 offseason and made his NFL debut with them last season. Beauplan was brought back to the practice squad in late September after being released as part of roster cuts after spending training camp with the team. Beauplan was added to the active roster and made three appearances when the Lions were plagued by injuries. During that time, the former Marshall star lined up for 52% of special teams snaps but did not see a defensive action.

The 25-year-old played for the Minnesota Vikings before to joining the Lions. Prior to being placed on injured reserve just before the season, he had spent the preseason and training camp there. In September 2023, he was released with an injury designation.

He was cut in the summer and ended up in Detroit after failing to make an appearance with the Vikings during the regular season. With NFL teams all across the league starting their offseason workouts, it is unclear what Beauplan’s future holds.
