Panthers named 'perfect landing spot' for Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson

Let the people get what they desire!

If the internet does nothing else, it will force a Lions blockbuster trade into being. There has been far too much tweeting for nothing to happen, so even if I don’t know when it will happen or who will be involved, it will. (That is how the NFL offseason operates, as far as I can tell.)

Like almost every team outside of the NFC East, the Lions could really need some assistance at edge rusher, so we know where it may go. That meant Maxx Crosby for a spell, and then Myles Garrett for a short while. Now, it means Bengals standout Trey Hendrickson, as discussed by Bleacher Report in their most recent list of NFL trade prospects.

Possible Trade Partner Drops Out of Trey Hendrickson Sweepstakes

Bleacher Report won’t stop until Trey Hendrickson is acquired by the Lions.
According to reports, contract negotiations between the Cincinnati Bengals and pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson have restarted, but this does not imply that a deal is imminent. The 30-year-old isn’t at the top of our board since Cincinnati seems reluctant to move him. On the other hand, he is the finest defender available in terms of productivity.

Over the last two seasons, the NFL’s leading sacks leader has recorded 17.5 quarterback takedowns. Almost every squad that needs assistance with pass-rushing need to inquire about his availability. The Detroit Lions and the Indianapolis Colts are two clubs that would be a great fit. In addition to hiring former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, Indianapolis lost pass-rusher Dayo Odeyingbo to the Bears in free agency. A good second edge-rusher to complement Aidan Hutchinson has long been sought for the Lions. Although Marcus Davenport presently fills that position, Hendrickson would be a glaring improvement.

I mean, this is not an argument. Hendrickson and the Bengals seem to be working things out in the end, but since they are the Bengals, you can never be sure. The combination of Hendrickson and Hutchinson would be electrifying and would undoubtedly make up for Detroit’s otherwise lackluster offseason this year. It’s not a difficult case to make, even though a lot of stuff comes out more as wishful thinking than any kind of real forecast. The Lions now appear worse, but the NFC North will be better this year. Detroit could do far worse than making a trade for one of the top pass rushers in football if they *were* going to freak out over that.
