The Baltimore Ravens announced on Wednesday that veteran running back Derrick Henry had agreed to a two-year contract extension.
The 31-year-old reportedly signed a $30 million extension, which, if verified, would be the biggest contract ever given to a running back over 30. However, financial specifics were not made public.
Henry played his first eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans before joining the Ravens last year.
He is considered by many to be among the NFL’s best and most devastating runners.
Henry had 1,921 running yards last season, which was second only to Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles (2,005 yards).
He had a strong offensive relationship with Baltimore’s dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson, averaging a career-high 5.9 yards per carry and finishing the season with 16 running touchdowns.
With his $15 million annual deal extension, Henry is now the third-highest paid running back in the NFL, after Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers ($19 million) and Barkley ($20.6 million).
