ESPN: The Yankees cut ties with veteran starter after he was arrested.

After Clarke Schmidt was forced to sit out a few days of the rotation due to side pain, Carlos Carrasco was able to make his planned start this week.
As it happens, there was a sign that Carrasco’s time with the Yankees this season—at least for the time being—was coming to an end.
On Tuesday afternoon, the day when Carrasco would have made his next planned start had Schmidt been on track, the Yankees designated him for assignment.
The Yankees used reliever Yerry De Los Santos to take Carrasco’s place since he was no longer on the active roster. When the Yankees brought up the right-hander from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as their 27th man for their doubleheader on April 27, he pitched two shutout innings. With the RailRiders, De Los Santos has a 1.74 ERA after 10 games so far this season.
This spring, Carrasco exceeded expectations as a non-roster invitee and earned a place in the rotation. Carrasco was the obvious choice to make the Opening Day roster after Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Schmidt were placed on the disabled list.
He had trouble in eight games, six of which he started. After suffering with slug and hard contact, the 38-year-old recorded a 5.91 ERA. In those eight appearances, the former Guardian and Met tossed 32 innings and gave up seven home runs. He played three innings in relief against the Rays on Sunday, which was his final Yankees appearance.
Long reliever Ryan Yarbrough may continue to be Carrasco’s rotation partner in the Yankees’ next rotation. On the day that Schmidt was scratched a few days ago, he made a spot start. Allan Winans, who has starting experience but is currently in Triple-A and would need a corresponding move to return to the major leagues, is another option.
