Welcome to New York 🎶 The Yankees add Paul Goldschmidt, the 2022 NL MVP, to their lineup 🗽

Prior to this season, the New York Yankees took a number of audacious decisions, and they have been paying off. The Yankees redirected the compensation that would have gone to Juan Soto to two astute signings after losing him to the New York Mets. Staying afloat after Gerrit Cole’s season-ending injury has been made possible by the $218 million signing of Max Fried. Additionally, it has paid off to sign experienced first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year, $12.5 million contract.

A resurgent has been sliced by Goldschmidt. This season, he is 346/.395/.506 with five home runs and 22 RBI. The squad is now in first place in the American League East division thanks in part to his scorching start. However, given the likelihood of a regression, Athlon Sports’ Jon Conahan proposed a fresh trade option in which the Yankees would move him to the Boston Red Sox, their opponent. “The Yankees moving Goldchmidt to the Red Sox might seem unlikely, but New York might be interested in adding a few of their players, with Boston’s farm system being as talented as it is,” Conahan stated. “Currently hitting .344 with four home runs and an OPS+ of 149, the Red Sox should consider him if the Yankees are willing to move on.”

The move could make sense, at least on paper. The Red Sox are searching for a big first base upgrade after losing Triston Casas to a season-ending injury. The Yankees may also be willing to deal big on Goldschmidt and move the hot-hitting Ben Rice into an everyday first base position once Giancarlo Stanton returns to the team. Almost every team would be interested in a transaction that would bring in some young talent from a Red Sox farm system that is highly respected. However, the prospect of maybe assisting a bitter rival in making some progress toward the playoffs is probably enough to put a stop to this trade proposal before it has a chance to develop any genuine traction between the two parties.
