Does Mike Tomlin have a burning desire?

A significant portion of Steelers supporters have been vocally demanding Mike Tomlin’s resignation for some time now.
During the previous season, when the Steelers dropped back-to-back home games to two winning teams in the course of four days—the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots—those yells and chants for Tomlin’s dismissal reached an unprecedented peak.
The Steelers finished the season 3-1, however they were ousted in the Wildcard stage of the playoffs once more, making history as the only team in NFL history to give up 30 points or more in five straight games.
Between 2006 and 2008, Willie Colon was a player with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he won a Super Bowl with the team in 2008. He now claims that Mike Tomlin will be under scrutiny in 2024 during an interview on The Craig Carton Show.
Colon declared, “I love Mike Tomlin, but I have to say this—he’s on the hot seat.” As for his total record, well, in 17 seasons, he’s only had four seasons with postseason victories, eight and ten playoff records, and some legitimate teams, including one that had quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Mike Tomlin’s current problem is that he wins games he should win but loses games he shouldn’t lose. “Well, who are the Pittsburgh Steelers?” I ask myself. Right now, are they the dweebs or the bullies? You look like the dweebs if you lose against the Cardinals and Patriots.
The four seasons with a postseason victory stand out undoubtedly. It’s also important for the Steelers to win when it counts most, something they haven’t done since the 2016–17 campaign, even though I don’t think Tomlin will be dismissed after this season regardless of the result.

Notice Is Given to Mike Tomlin by a Former Steelers Lineman
Willie Colon, an offensive lineman, spent more NFL seasons coaching for Mike Tomlin than any other head coach. Colon is obviously still in awe of the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. That doesn’t mean, however, that he will hold back while speaking to Tomlin.
In a guest interview on FS1’s The Carton Show on April 30, Colon revealed that Tomlin will start the 2024 season under fire.
Regarding his overall record, he has played in the playoffs for eight seasons out of ten. Colon stated, “He’s only had four successful postseason seasons, and he’s had some legitimate teams, even with Ben Roethlisberger.”
“Mike Tomlin’s current problem is that he wins games that he should win but loses games that he shouldn’t lose. Rewind to this year. The Patriots and Cardinals defeated him. Had no business losing both games, therefore it’s understandable that Steelers Nation is now irate.
“At the moment, they are examining an organization that is far above average. They seem to have everything going for them, but they still lose stupid games. I ask myself, “Well, who are the Pittsburgh Steelers?” at this point. Do they behave like dweebs or like bullies?
Colon makes a valid point when he says that the Steelers’ defeats by the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots in December contributed to the perception that Tomlin had the team disregarding opponents. Those two losses at the time put the team’s hopes of making the playoffs in jeopardy.
However, the Steelers salvaged their season and advanced to the postseason. However, they once more lost in the opening round. Pittsburgh has lost its last five postseason games.
Is Mike Tomlin going to be in hot water come 2024?
It’s a contentious discussion regarding whether Tomlin should be fired by 2024.
There is little question that Tomlin would need to win in 2024 to guarantee his position for the long run if Pittsburgh media or Steelers supporters controlled the organization. But team president Art Rooney II hasn’t really expressed his displeasure with Tomlin’s performance—at least not in public.
Tomlin’s admirers cite his 17 consecutive seasons without a losing record and Super Bowl victory as achievements that could earn him a Hall of Fame coaching position. His teammates adore him as well.
However, as Colon pointed out, Tomlin has only won postseason games in 2008, 2010, 2015, and 2016. He also has a losing record in the playoffs.
Colon stated, “It’s one thing to get to the table, but once you’re there, you have to win.” That will loom large over his head till he arrives.
Colon said he loves Tomlin and is hoping for him to silence his detractors because “he’s a damn good coach.”
To appease some of his detractors, Tomlin will need to win in the regular season and snap his team’s postseason losing record in 2024.
Tomlin continues to await a contract extension.
Another element that might decide whether Tomlin stays under investigation come 2024 is his contract.
Given that his contract is only good for one season, Tomlin is effectively a lame duck coach as of May 5. The Steelers will be sending a strong message that they want results before deciding to stick with the current coaching staff if they don’t extend Tomlin before this autumn.
All signs point to Tomlin getting a contract extension before to the start of the campaign. Following Tomlin’s post-season press conference, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed on January 18 that the team intends “to extend Mike’s contract.”
At his press conference following the season, Tomlin stated, “I would imagine those contract things are going to run their course.” “I have an excellent, open relationship with Art. We talk all the time. This shouldn’t provide any problems, and I think it will be completed on schedule and in a timely manner. I approach this football squad like a coach.
Tomlin is almost certain to get a deal this summer. But until then, it’s likely that the media will keep making assumptions about his whereabouts.
